Inauguration ceremony of the Seventh Students’ Union

The new cabinet, dubbed ‘Origin’, was elected to the Executive Committee of the seventh OUHK Students’ Union at the polling held on 6–7 March. The inauguration ceremony took place on 23 April with President Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong as the officiating guest and the senior management of the University also in attendance. At the ceremony, Students’ Union President Yip Yee-yin pledged that he and his team would fight for the benefit of students, safeguard the solidarity of the OUHK community and, as the name of their cabinet suggests, bring about innovation and pass on their spirit of service to future cabinets.

Students take part in programmes about the stages of life and personal enhancement

From April to June, the University’s Student Counselling Service organized a series of education programmes on life and death, giving students a chance to look into each of the different life stages and to reflect on the value of each stage. During the programme, participants joined various activities to achieve the programme goals, including volunteer training, adventure programmes, and meeting with the elderly, children and people with terminal diseases.

In addition, a host of effective management training programmes was held in April. With excursions and workshops on study skills, time and stress management, the programmes aimed at enhancing students’ abilities to plan and manage their studies and personal lives.

Exchange Programme for Ten Thousand People exhibition

In the ‘Exchange Programme for Ten Thousand People,’ initiated by the Ministry of Education last year, students attended summer school, participated in student exchanges and worked as interns with a number of mainland universities. As the Programme will return for its second year this summer, an exhibition was held at the OUHK campus on 22–25 April to introduce the programme and to share student reviews.

Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong meets with representatives from the Students’ Union and student societies

On 15 April, President Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong, together with Vice President Prof. Danny Wong, Associate Vice President Prof. Ip Yiu-keung, Director of Finance Mr Santiago Chuen and Director of Public Affairs Mr Stephen Ng, met with 38 representatives from the newly elected Students’ Union and student societies. The President began his discussion by sharing his plans for the OUHK with the students. The President and students then exchanged views on a range of topics, including campus development, student amenities, the examination system and enrichment of student life.

Students visit the People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison

On 12 April, a delegation of 14 students and two staff members, led by Associate Vice President Prof. Ip Yiu-keung, joined an exchange activity along with students from other local tertiary programmes, at the People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison. The event, held by the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR at the Ngong Shuen Chau Barracks, featured both military programme and football games.
