    Closing-of-the-Lunar-Year Luncheon Party

In celebration of the OUHK’s Silver Jubilee, this year’s Closing-of-the-Lunar-Year Luncheon,
attened by over 700 guests and staff, was held on 21 January at a Chinese banquet restaurant in Ho Man Tin. Dr Charles Lee addressed the event in his new capacity as Pro Chancellor and thanked the University management for their effective leadership. In their welcoming remarks, both Council Chairman Dr Eddy C Fong and President Prof. John C Y Leong praised the achievements contributed by colleagues.

Before the lunch began, participants congratulate the attainment of doctoral degrees by Lecturer Dr Wayne Chan Wing-lun, Lecturer Dr William Tang Ko-wai and Assistant Professor Dr Wong Ka-fai. Participants also congratulated three groups of awardees on receiving the President’s Award for Distinguished Achievement. The first award was presented to Director of the University Research Centre Dr Li Kam-cheong, who received the Gold Medal for the Best Paper Award in the 27th Annual Conference of the Asian Association of Open Universities. The environmental and algal technology research team from the School of Science and Technology received the second award, in recognition of their efforts in supervising a group of students who won several prizes at the national level. The third award was presented to the project team in recognition of their success in fitting out the Kwai Hing Learning Centre despite the many limitations, and time and budget constraints they faced.

Finally, Long Service Awards were given to 21 full-time staff and part-time tutors that have worked at the University for 20 years, to 21 colleagues that have served for ten years, and to three retiring staff members. While presenting souvenirs to the awardees, President Prof. Leong was also given his own souvenir in recognition of his ten years with the University by the Council Chairman. Vice President (Technology and Development) Prof. Leung Chun-ming, who retired at the end of January, gave an address on behalf of all of the retirees. The award presentation ceremony was followed by games, a lucky draw, a video on changes of the University over the last 25 years, and lively performances by staff and students.
