FAQ - Using E-Library at home

FAQ - Using E-Library at home

Contact Internet Technical Hotline at 2711-2100 or ituhelp@ouhk.edu.hk for technical assistance.
    1.   I see a login page when I access e-journals & databases and e-books at home. Why?
You must have proper remote access connection established before accessing resources in the E-Library. You should type in your user ID and password, and click on “Submit”.
For more details about remote access connection, please refer to the Remote Access Guide.
    2.   When I access e-journals & databases and e-books at the E-Library, I see a message warning that my connection is not secure. What should I do?
If you see this message, please click “Yes” to proceed.
If you see this message, please click “Continue to this website (not recommended)” to proceed.
If you see this message, please right-click on the yellow bar and select “Display Blocked Content” to proceed.
    3.   I bookmarked some resource pages and used the items before. Now, the bookmarks do not work. Why?
Do not bookmark resource pages. To access the resource now, please close all the browsers, start over at the E-Library homepage and access it again.
    4.   I fail to log in the E-Library service. Why?
        The possible reasons are:
        i.  No right to access E-Library off-campus
Please check the access codes printed next to the “Valid Till” date on the back of your student identity card.
"L" -  Stands for the right to enter the OUHK Library and access E-Library off-campus
"LC" -  Stands for the right to enter the OUHK Library only
"LE" -  Stands for the right to access E-Library off-campus only
("P" -  Stands for the right to access the PC laboratories)
Special note for Distance Learning students: If you temporarily suspend your studies and have not currently registered in any OUHK courses, you will not have the right to access E-Library off-campus.

ii.  Incorrect user ID and password: check your user ID and password.
iii  Connection may fail if your network (e.g. office’s network) has firewall installed.
Iv.  Incorrect Library Proxy setting: check your proxy setting again according to the instruction in the Library Proxy homepage.

If you need further assistance, please contact ITU’s Internet Technical Support at 2711-2100 or send email to ituhelp@ouhk.edu.hk.
    4.   I have forgotten my E-Library password. How can I reset it?
You can go to OUHK homepage (http://www.ouhk.edu.hk) > Staff / Students / Tutors Web Site > Communication & Support > Single Password Management and follow the instructions on the screen to change your password.

Note: Once you change the password, your new password will be instantly updated in the OUHK systems including E-Library, MyOUHK, Online Learning Environment, OUHK Email and various eServices.
    5.   I start taking OU courses again after a lapse of several semesters. I have already set my own student password. Is the password still valid? Do I have to get the single password?
In order to access the E-Library and other OUHK online services using the same password, you should get your Single Password.
    6.   Which web browser should I use?
IE6.0 or above is highly recommended for accessing the E-Library.
