Launched in June 2015, the Career Attachment Mentorship Scheme (CAMS) has been designed to uniquely combine the best that can be offered from the concepts of ‘career attachment’ and ‘mentorship’. The scheme is highly flexible and results in mutual benefits for both mentees and mentors. Through CAMS, committed mentees will not only be inspired by guidance and advice from their mentors, they will also gain some work-related exposure. Mentors may benefit from having a ready pool of enthusiastic young people who are eager to help out in the workplace.
Esteemed and successful professionals have been invited to become mentors for CAMS. Through regular meetings, mentors and mentees will build a good professional relationship. If they choose to, some mentors may take it one step further, by offering their mentees opportunities to hone their skills and develop competencies through work-related exposure, either provided by their own organisations or through their personal networks. The practical experience may be in many forms, such as internships; part-time jobs; helping out at events, such as Corporate Social Responsibility activities; and job shadowing.
