    FAQ - Reading electronic books

    1.   I see a login page when I access e-journals & databases and e-books at home. Why?
        You must have proper remote access connection established before accessing resources in the E-Library. You should type in your user ID and password, and click on “Submit”.
        For more details about remote access connection, please refer to the Remote Access Guide.
    2.   When I access e-journals & databases and e-books at the E-Library, I see a message warning that my connection is not secure. What should I do?
        If you see this message, please click “Yes” to proceed.
        If you see this message, please click “Continue to this website (not recommended)” to proceed.
        If you see this message, please right-click on the yellow bar and select “Display Blocked Content” to proceed.
    3.   I bookmarked some resource pages and used the items before. Now, the bookmarks do not work. Why?
        Do not bookmark resource pages. To access the resource now, please close all the browsers, start over at the E-Library homepage and access it again.
    4.   Which web browser should I use?
        Internet Explorer 6 or Internet Explorer 7 is highly recommended for accessing the E-library.  Internet Explorer 8 has compatibility problems with some of the E-book viewers.
    5.   I was asked to install Microsoft CAPICOM.2.0 when clicking on an e-book. However, a message told me that the installation failed after I clicked the "Install" button. What should I do?
    Please follow the steps here to check the settings of your Internet Explorer and then run the installation again.

    6.   A message "You are viewing another e-book" was shown when I opened an e-book in the OU Viewer. Why?
        Viewing "OUHK Collection" ebook is limited to one title per user at the same time. If you want to view another book, please close the OU viewer and click on the book to view it.
    7.   A message "The OU Viewer will be launched soon" was shown when I opened an e-book. But the content of the e-book could not be shown. What should I do?
    You can follow the steps below to solve the problem:
    1. In the Internet Explorer window, select "Tools" > "Internet Options".
    2. Select "Security" tab > click "Custom Level".
    3. Set the "Allow META REFRESH" option to "Enable".

    8.   I see the message "Loan Period Expired" when I am reading an e-book in the OU Viewer. Why?
        Each "OUHK Collection" e-book viewing session is limited to two hours. Please close the OU Viewer and open the title again.
    9.   I found errors and my PC hanged when downloading "CRC" e-books. Why?
        In order to solve the problem, please upgrade your Acrobat Reader to version 8 or above. You may download this free software at the Adobe website.
