    Professor Li Wei

    Professor Li Wei

    Professor Li Wei is Chair of Applied Linguistics and Director of the UCL Centre for Applied Linguistics at the UCL Institute of Education, University College London, UK, and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, UK. His co-publication Translanguaging: Language, Bilingualism and Education won the 2015 British Association of Applied Linguistics Book Prize, and his current work focuses on the creativity and criticality of multilingual and multimodal language users.
    Research Interests
    Professor Li’s research interests are in the broad areas of bilingualism and multilingualism, which includes Bilingual and Multilingual First Language Acquisition (BAMFLA), early second language acquisition (ESLA), speech and language disorders of bilingual and multilingual speakers, the pragmatics of codeswitching, bilingual education, and intercultural communication.

    With advisory support from Prof Li Wei, related research outputs have also been facilitated:
    • Prof Robin Yang presented a research paper entitled “Analysis of Learner Code-switched Self-repetition in L2 Classroom Talk”, which reports part of findings from RGC research project (UGC/FDS16/H15/14) at 12th BAAL Language Learning and Teaching SIG, 30 Jun - 1 July, Lancaster University, U.K.
    • Prof Robin Yang presented a research paper entitled “Dual Function of Code-switching in Cantonese-English Bilingual Children's Conversation”, at Young Language Learners (YLL) Symposium 2016, 6 – 8 July, at Department of Education, Oxford University, U.K.
    • Ms Suzannie Leung presented a paper entitled “Translanguaging in early visual arts” at 2017 International Symposium on Education and Psychology at Kyoto, Japan on 5 April.
    • Prof Robin Yang consulted Prof Li Wei on the research topic “Analysis of repair practice and its relationship with L2 Chinese learning in online tutorials”.
