Description: Harry Potter has become so ingrained in the cultural and linguistic fabric of Britain that it's a little tricky to distinguish what's been invented for the magical world and what's just...British. Find out about the real life inspirations of magical culture and how made-up phrases have become part of everyday language.
Apr 13 (Tuesday, 3PM to 4PM)
Apr 14 (Wednesday, 3PM to 4PM)
Apr 15 (Thursday, 3PM to 4PM)
2. English WorkshopTopic: Consistency: UK English versus US English
Description: Is it cookie or biscuit? Do we say sweater, or jumper? There has always been great confusion when it comes to deciding which English to use. Well, whatever you decide upon doesn’t matter, as long as you remain consistent. This workshop is ideal for students interested in learning the differences between the two versions of English. Come discuss which words are more consistent with either version along with others!
Apr 20 (Tuesday, 3PM to 4PM)
Apr 21 (Wednesday, 3PM to 4PM)
Apr 22 (Thursday, 3PM to 4PM)
Please note that:
1) The topic repeats every day for the whole week, so you might just join one workshop. Of course you are welcome to join more than once if you would like to get yourself familiarize with the topic.
2) The workshops will be conducted by Zoom. And the seating is first come first served, so sign up now!
3. (New!) Online English Corner
Each English Corner is like a chit-chat group mediated by an English instructor at the Language Centre. You will have a chance to practice your English by exchanging ideas of a topic with other students in the group and by being introduced to words and phrases of the topic. Our English instructor will also play virtual games with you so that you can experience the fun with English.
• You will receive a Zoom meeting link via your email when your registration is confirmed.
