Dear Academic Colleagues,
The Research Grants Council (RGC) is the University’s most important source of funding for research. On 11 April 2019, its Monitoring & Assessment Panel visited the University with the aim of assessing the effectiveness of selected projects funded by the RGC. I am delighted to share with you that the University’s development and achievements in research were highly appreciated by the RGC panel in this site visit.
The visit included the presentation of selected projects, together with meetings with academics and management staff of the University. A summary of the main points made by members of the RGC panel and the feedback from the University’s management during the visit is attached.
Overall, the panel members were highly satisfied with the University’s research development. They were impressed by the efforts we have made to build up the University’s research culture and infrastructure. The University’s plan to progressively strengthen its research capacity was commended — that is, horizontally, the University has promoted research with the establishment of research institutes and centres and, vertically, the impact of research has been extended to different Schools and Departments. Our academics gave impressive presentations on the relevant projects, demonstrating the excellent level we have achieved with promising outcomes such as publications. The panel members also raised a few concerns about our research development, but those are only minor issues and we will do our best to deal with them.
I should like to take this opportunity to thank colleagues who have been working hard and striving for excellence in research. For greater success in our research development, more staff need to be interested in and committed to conducting research. With our unremitting efforts, we are confident that the University’s research development will reach new heights.
