    Start your MPF Journey today!

    Dear Student,

    Start your MPF Journey today!

Congratulations! You are about to complete your university education and many of you might choose to enter into the workforce soon. There is a saying, “the youth is the best asset”.  Starting your financial planning early to cater for different needs of different life stages, including retirement, is of utmost importance. Therefore, it is essential to understand the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) System and MPF investment as early as possible.

The MPF System, launched on 1 December 2000, aims at assisting the working population of Hong Kong to accumulate retirement savings. It requires both employers and employees, as well as self-employed persons, to make MPF contributions on a regular and persistent manner throughout one span of the employees’ career life.  Under the MPF System, all full-time and part-time employees aged 18 to 64 who are employed for 60 days or more must join an MPF scheme. A person’s career normally spans several decades, so MPF is a long-term investment. Once you begin working, it is important that you plan for your long-term future by managing your MPF investment in the smartest way possible.

As a new entrant to the workforce, it is important that you quickly familiarize yourself with the MPF System and your obligations under it. For some useful information to get you started, please visit the MPFA website and read our educational publication Embarking on My MPF Journey (《積金初體驗》). This includes information on understanding the six major decision points on your MPF investment journey, on calculating your MPF contributions, and much more besides.

To receive up-to-date information about the MPF and money management, as well as smart tips on job hunting, we invite you to do one or more of the following:

(This smartphone app is loaded with interactive and experiential features. For example, its “CV Generator” and “Virtual Interview” functions provide up-to-date information on MPF and help young people with their job hunting. Also, its new “MPF Application Interactive Walkthrough” function gives users practice in filling out an MPF Enrolment Form, and provides relevant points to note when doing so. Users of the new app who join the “Becoming MVP” reward programme also have the chance to win prizes by accomplishing designated “MPF-related missions”.)

If you have any questions about the MPF or would like more information, please contact us by email at schoolservicempf@mpfa.org.hk.

We wish you every success in your future career!
