    New & Cancellation of Databases in the Electronic Library (2020)


    In consultation with the Schools, the Library has conducted an annual review on database subscriptions for 2020. Changes on subscribed databases are listed below.

      New subscription
    From now on, the following databases will be available for access in the Electronic Library.
      1. CINAHL Complete (Provider: EBSCO)
    CINAHL Complete covers an extensive source of full text for nursing and allied health journals, and provides full text for more than 1,300 journals indexed in CINAHL. It also provides indexing for more than 5,400 journals, and provides additional nursing and allied health research material including health care books, nursing dissertations, select conference proceedings, evidence-based care sheet and quick lesson disease overviews.
      2. Clarity English - Clear Pronunciation 2 (Provider: Clarity English)
    An online course to help users to speak English clearly and naturally. It consists of five learning sections: word stress, sentence stress, consonant clusters, connected speech and intonation.
      3. Clarity English - Practical Writing (Provider: Clarity English)
    An online course consists of teacher videos, interactive activities and study sheets to help users to structure their message, find the right vocabulary and choose an appropriate style in different types of writing. It covers the following text types:
    · Essays: for and against
    · Essay: descriptive
    · Job applications: your online profile
    · Emails: asking for information
    · A short report: graphs
    · Reviews: hotels and restaurants
    · Avoiding plagiarism
    · Taking notes
    · Textspeak
    · Official letters
      4. Clarity English - Road to IELTS (Full Version - Academic) (Provider: Clarity English)
    An online preparation and practice resource for IELTS candidates. It provides interactive activities, advice videos from experts and practical tests to help users to improve their skills in reading, listening, speaking and writing.
      5. English-Corpora.org (Provider: Brigham Young University)
    On English-Corpora.org., you can find out how native speakers actually speak and write and find the frequency of words, phrases, and collocates through the corpora. Besides, you can also look at language variation and change, gain insight into culture and design authentic language teaching materials and resources. The 16 corpora allow you to see the detailed entries for the top 60,000 words in English and get detailed information on each word and analyze your own academic texts.
      6. Net Languages - Grammar Practice (Provider: Net Languages)
    This online course consists of 3 levels: basic, intermediate and advanced. Each level provides more than 150 grammar activities, interactive exercises and grammar reference.
      7. Net Languages - Medical English for Health Professionals Course (Provider: Net Languages)
    This is an online course to help users learning English medical vocabulary and practising communication in English for medical purposes.
      8. Net Languages - Vocabulary Practice (Provider: Net Languages)
    This online course consists of 3 levels: basic, intermediate and advanced. Each level provides more than 200 vocabulary activities and interactive discovery and practice exercises.
      9.   Net Languages - Writing Practice (Provider: Net Languages)
    This online course consists of 3 levels: basic, intermediate and advanced. There are 65 writing activities in the basic and intermediate level and 100 writing activities in advanced level. Different text types are included with focus on text features, writing strategies and useful languages.
      10. 國文天地雜誌資料庫 (Provider: 漢珍數位圖書股份有限公司) (Content in Chinese only)

    To access the databases, type in the database name in the search box on the Library homepage, then click "Online access".

    Effective from 1 January 2020, the following databases will no longer be available from the Electronic Library.
      1. CINAHL Plus with Full Text (Provider: EBSCO)
      2. International political science abstracts (Provider: EBSCO)
      3. Public administration abstracts (Provider: EBSCO)
      4. Europa world of learning (Provider: Routledge)
      5. Europa world (Provider: Routledge)
      6. Grove art online (Provider: Oxford University Press)
      7. Joanna Briggs Institute EBP Database (Provider: Ovid)
      8. 全國報刊索引 (Provider: 上海圖書館)
