Koey Kong Ho-fung
Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Language Studies and Translation
Koey Kong Ho-fung has always held a keen interest in language and translation since she was young, and has wanted to pursue a career in editing, translation and technical writing. After completing Form 7 she enrolled in an associate degree programme in Bilingual Studies and planned to apply for a top-up degree programme later. Koey has been very demanding on herself in trying to get good grades in her studies, which caused too much pressure and resulted in poor health. She eventually had to suspend her studies for a while after completing the associate degree programme.
As Koey recovered her health, she decided to resume her studies. She opted for the OUHK’s top-up Bachelor’s Degree in Language Studies and Translation as the programme is well-suited to her needs and interest. She also appreciated the University’s mission of “Education for All” which enables people from all walks of life to obtain quality higher education.
Studying at the OUHK allows Koey to regain the joy and fulfilment of learning. She loves the University’s vibrant and supportive environment as well as the close relationships between students, teachers and fellow classmates. Under the devoted guidance of her teachers, Koey gradually found the effective way of learning and achieved excellent results. With her outstanding performance, Koey was named to the Dean’s List and awarded with the "Connie Scholarship" and "Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme Outstanding Performance Scholarship" in academic year 2017/18.
This is the first time that Koey receives scholarships from the University. She would like to express her deepest gratitude to the donors and teachers for their kind support. In addition to monetary reward, Koey sees the scholarships as an important recognition for her hard work and perseverance in the past year. The scholarships not only relieve her financial burden, but they are also a great encouragement to boost her confidence. She is planning to use the money on reference books and dictionaries to help her achieve even better academic results.
