OU nursing students designed a series of home-based exercise for those elderly who are unable to walk and need to stay home. Students also promoted the exercise by demonstrating it in health booths and in its partner Centre. In the past two years, the Centre adopted this set of exercise and continued to conduct teaching and promote it to their elderly participants in different activities.
The students’ efforts have earned the School of Nursing and Health Studies an award presented by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service at its Age-Friendly City Appreciation Scheme 2020-2021. The Scheme aims to encourage the community to consider the principle of elder-friendly when implementing policies, measures, or providing services and products, so as to enhance public’s understanding of an elder-friendly community. This set of exercise was also posted in a promotional magazine under the Jockey Club Age-friendly City Campaign.
