In education, multimedia has come to mean the integrated use,
in a computer-based system, of digitized text, audio, graphics,
animation, and video to present elements of course content.
These elements can be presented in many different ways,
allowing students to choose their own path through the courseware
through keyboard or mouse interactions. Developing good
multimedia courseware is a highly skilled task requiring
knowledge of the subject matter, instructional design skills,
and familiarity with the authoring software. Multimedia
courseware may be presented on a CD-ROM for use on a stand-alone
personal computer or over the Web through networked computer
terminals.
