Wrap-up e-conference begins

Dear Colleagues,
It was very nice to see you at the face-to-face segment of CRIDALA 2000 in Hong Kong. I hope you have settled back to your home and work environment. For me, apart from the professional and academic interaction, it was quite pleasing that I was able to meet in real life many of those we had corresponded with before the conference and, those who made contributions to the lead-up e-conference.

As mentioned at the closing ceremony in Hong Kong, the wrap-up e-conference will begin today, July 3 and ends on 24 July. The website for the wrap-up conference is:

The face-to-face conference brought forth very many interesting issues worthy of further deliberation. The conference summary, which has now been included in the wrap-up website, has got details of all these issues. Time and other factors did not permit us to discuss everything in Hong Hong, and unfortunately will again not permit us to discuss all of them at the wrap-up e-conference. However, for the purpose of the wrap-up e conference and cognisance of the limited time available for the discussion, the Conference Organising Committee has identified/synthesised THREE issues from all that were discussed at both the lead-up and the face-to-face conferences for our current discussion. The issues are as follows:

Issue 1: Technology: access, pedagogy and use in ODL research

Issue 2: Developing robust ODL research methodologies adequate for appropriate theoretical frameworks, cross-cultural research and meeting the needs of marginalised groups

Issue 3: Focus of ODL research henceforth : building research communities through mentoring, development of an ODL research knowledge base, and outcomes-oriented research policies.

The three issues will be facilitated as usual and I invite you to make time to contribute as much as you can. A collation and summary of the lead-up and wrap-up conferences will be included in cridala 2000 publication being planned.
