I couldn't help but jump in here. The comments I read enforce what I said earlier. The concepts or theories that are mentioned can be traced back 30 years or more. One of the problems , I feel, is that our educational systems don;t ground our graduates in some of the links or connections with theories. For example, ;ifelong learning was popular back in the 7os and constructivism goes back to Piaget at least thirty years. Why do we keep coming up with a new set of old ideas, or trying to say that the technology created these theories. Rather we have applied the same theories before technology. I believe that if you are a poor educator in the traditional modes, technology may magnify that. Perhaps the answers lie in our preparation for the field. I also read comments about teaching versus research. many countries emphasize research not teaching. In the US at most universities there are three things faculty are evaluated on: teaching, researcg and service. Of these components, at most places that I am familiar, ggod teaching is not considered to any degree, but rather research and funding. In other countries teaching or the application of concepts and theories is the main focus, Especially in the developing countries where funding is tight and the idea of funding through grants etc, is fairly new. Somehow, I agree, the two must come together.
