The
“Occupational Safety and Health
Ordinance and Regulations” enacted in
1997 emphasizes the share of
responsibilities between employers and
employees in achieving occupational
health and safety in the workplace. The
Diploma programme (DH008) is
particularly designed for those who are
interested in knowing more about the
field of occupational health and safety.
The Professional Diploma (DH007)
programme aims
to develop professional knowledge in
occupational health and safety related
to daily working environments. It leads
to Membership of Institution of
Occupational Safety and Health (GradIOSH),
United Kingdom.
Upon completion
of DH008, students should be able to :

Identify general health
and safety problems
within their workplace;

Evaluate the degree of
complexity of health and
safety problems;
-
Formulate abatement
programmes to tackle
health and safety
problems;
-
Assist their senior
management in the
establishment of a
health and safety
policy;
-
Design, implement and
evaluate a health and
safety management
system.
Upon completion
of DH007, in addition to the points above,
students should be able to :
- Develop
professional knowledge and maintain
competence in occupational health and safety
related to daily working environments;
- Enhance
their personal and professional development
in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Those who have
responsibilities to implement
occupational health and safety
in an organization, or have
personal interest in
occupational health and safety;

Those who are interested in obtaining the
“Registered Safety Officer” status and
further study opportunities in occupational
health and safety;
-
Those Registered Safety Officers who need to
meet the Continuing Professional Development
(CPD) requirements.
- The first and largest OHS
diploma programme in Hong Kong;
-
Graduates of the DH008 and DH007 with
relevant working experience are eligible to
apply for registration as “Registered Safety
Officer” in Hong Kong;
-
Graduates of the DH007 are eligible to apply
for Graduate membership (GradIOSH) of IOSH,
UK;
- Individual courses are
also suitable for experienced staff in
satisfaction of Continuing Professional
Development (CPD) requirements under the
Factories and Industrial Undertakings
(Safety Officers and Safety Supervisors)
Regulations.

To obtain an
award, students are required to pass both
Continuous Assessment (in the form of
assignments, case study and presentation, test
etc.) and Examination in each course. The
passing mark is 50%. Students are required to
fulfill an attendance rate of 70%.
- RSO :
Upon completion of the programmes,
graduates with relevant working experience
are eligible to apply for registration as
Registered Safety Officer (RSO) in Hong
Kong;
- GradIOSH :
DH007, graduates are eligible to apply for
membership of GradIOSH, UK. IOSH is a
leading European body for health and safety
professionals with more than 37,000 members
worldwide, including more than 13,000
Chartered Safety and Health Practitioners.
The Institution was founded in 1945 and
received Royal Chartered Status in 2003. The
professional qualifications of the IOSH
members are recognized worldwide.
- CNE :
Graduates can apply for 90
Continuing Nursing Education points from the
Hong Kong Nursing Council.
Exemption may be granted for
individual courses if an applicant has
successfully completed a course of comparable
content and standard at a recognized tertiary
institution or through a professional
examination, e.g.: ASO Certificate / CSO
Certificate issued by Construction Industry
Council Training Academy (CICTA) may be
considered for exemption from taking “OSH 5001EP
Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety”.
- Graduates of DH008/DH007
may proceed to study BN004 BSc (Hons) in
Occupational Safety and Health (top-up)
programme offered by Middlesex University UK
