Programme description

This programme aims
to equip students with an in-depth knowledge of psychology and its place
in the social sciences, and to arouse an interest in exploring human
behaviour and experience. It familiarizes students with basic knowledge
in social and psychological research and provides an opportunity for
them to apply this knowledge. Students are also exposed to areas of
study related to psychology. Graduates will leave the programme with a
good background for future studies in psychology and related
disciplines. The scope of the programme extends to applied psychology
and counselling.

Mentorship scheme
The School of Arts
and Social Sciences has an academic mentorship scheme for full-time
Social Sciences students. Each student will be assigned a mentor (or
academic advisor). Students can consult their mentors throughout their
studies for matters related to their programmes, study progress and
future planning. Friendships with mentors have been known to continue
beyond graduation.
Career prospects
Many psychology
graduates are employed in the area of social services; as counselors and
psychologists; and in related fields. Some are working in the commercial
sector in areas such as public relations, advertising, marketing, human
resources management and market research.
Further studies
With the widely
recognized degree offered by the university, OUHK graduates of the
social sciences have gone on to pursue studies in different local and
overseas universities. This programme equips students with all the
skills and knowledge needed for further studies at the postgraduate
level (by research or course work) in the field of psychology, for
example, clinical and education psychology, and related
fields.
