You may be able to get credit for your previous studies. Credit exemption, known as ‘advanced standing' at the OUHK, is available for many students who have completed tertiary-level studies elsewhere.

• How it works. If you have transferable credits from other tertiary educational institutions, these can count towards the requirements for most OUHK qualifications. This may considerably shorten the time you need to complete your OUHK study programme.

• Maximum levels of advanced standing that can be granted. Advanced standing is available for sub-degree, undergraduate degree, Postgraduate Diploma and Master's Degree programmes, with some exceptions. The maximum levels that can be granted are:

Qualification	Maximum advanced standing possible
Certificate	33% of the total credit requirements
Diploma	50% of the total credit requirements
Associate Degree	50% of the total credit requirements
Higher Diploma	50 credits
Bachelor's Degree	80 credits
Bachelor's Degree with Honours	100 credits
Master's Degree	30 credits
Postgraduate Diploma	20 credits

In addition to the above general guidelines, please note the following specific situations:

• A maximum advanced standing of 100 credits may be applied towards the dual awards programmes:
  Bachelor of Language Studies (English) (Honours) and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Secondary); and
  Bachelor of Language Studies (English) (Honours) and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Primary).

• A maximum advanced standing of 20 credits may be applied towards Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Primary Education, and Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Secondary Education, Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education and Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education (Special Educational Needs).

• How to apply for advanced standing/credit exemption. If you possess a qualification eligible for advanced standing/credit exemption, you are strongly advised to obtain more detailed information from the OUHK's Advanced Standing Office. • When will claims for advanced standing/credit exemption be considered? Your claim will be considered when you are a registered student. If you have never registered with the University, you may submit your application under the Extended Scheme.
