Short film wins Best Script Award
The short film Remains, produced by full-time Creative Writing and Film Arts students, received the Best Script Award (Student Division) in the Fresh Wave 2011 International Short Film Festival organized by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. The film was written and directed by Year 3 student Riley Leung under the supervision of School of Arts and Social Sciences Assistant Lecturers Mr Dan Ip and Ms Venus Lai. It was screened at Broadway Cinematheque on 12 and 18 December 2011.

Computer engineering students win prize in mathematical contest in modelling
A team of three students from the School of Science and Technology, Lau King-chi, Lau Wai-ho and Leung Kwok-man, won second prize in the 2011 Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modelling, the world’s largest contest of its kind. They were among some 19,000 teams from universities in Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, the United States, Iran and mainland China taking part in the competition.

Dragon 100 Young Chinese Leaders Forum 2011
Full-time BBA students Chan Hoi-fai and Wong Chor-wing were selected to participate in the Dragon 100 Young Chinese Leaders Forum 2011 organized by the Dragon Foundation from 24 July to
1 August 2011. They were joined by 98 other young Chinese leaders from around the world. The exchange programme was conducted in both Hong Kong and Taiwan, where the participants explored various issues under the main theme ‘Caring about the Poor: Today and Tomorrow.’

Students meet the People's Liberation Army in Hong Kong
Sixteen OUHK students and two staff members, together with other representatives from local tertiary institutions, joined an exchange activity with the People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison organized by the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR. Military and cultural performances were lined up as part of the activity, which was held on 19 November 2011.

Student Affairs Office organizes career talks and seminars

The Student Affairs Office of the Registry organized several talks to help graduating students learn about the nature and requirements of different industries. The series included a recruitment talk for the post of Executive Officer II held on 22 September 2011 by the General Grades Office, Government Secretariat, and a briefing session on the Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) and Auxiliary Police (Undergraduates) Scheme (AUS) held on 8 November 2011 by the Hong Kong Police Force. Both talks were attended by more than 80 students. About 100 applications for the PMP and AUS were received afterwards.
Meanwhile, as part of the series of university rotation seminars organized by the Hong Kong Young Industrialists Council (HKYIC), a seminar was held at the OUHK on 2 December 2011 with the support of the Student Affairs Office. Group Managing Director of Fountain Set (Holdings) Limited Mr Ha Kam-on delivered a talk on the outlook for Hong Kong’s industries, while members of the HKYIC gave details about their internship programme to be held from April through August. Participants of last year’s internship programme were invited to share their experiences with the attendees. |

Visit to the Foreign Ministry Office in Hong Kong
Five OUHK students participated in a joint institution activity organized by the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong SAR on 15 November 2011. During the visit, students met officials and discussed with diplomats topics related to international diplomacy.

Nursing students participate in voluntary service

Seventy students from the Higher Diploma in Nursing Studies programme provided voluntary services in the form of health assessments for the 2011 World Diabetes Day carnival organized by the non-profit organization Angel of Diabetic on 4–6 November 2011. |
