Shenzhen Preparatory Workshop

A Preparatory Workshop was held in Shenzhen on 27 September for mainland adults interested in studying OUHK's distance learning courses. Registrar Mr Lee Shu-wing and Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration Dean Prof. Ip Yiu-keung kicked off the three-hour session with opening remarks, followed by a talk on higher education in Hong Kong and OUHK's programme offerings by Mainland China Projects Co-ordinator Dr Simon Xu. The workshop ended with a tutorial lesson for the try-out course Business Communication I conducted by Lecturer Ms Lenis Cheung and Teaching Assistant Ms Eugenia Wong. All participants were given a unit of study material and an assignment to complete. About half of them indicated in the post-event survey that they were interested in enrolling in OUHK courses.

MOU with Guangdong Pharmaceutical University

OUHK President Prof. John C Y Leong signed a memorandum of understanding with Guangdong Pharmaceutical University Vice President Mr Zhang Youdou on 18 August. The visiting team received a warm welcome by School of Science and Technology Dean Prof. Ho Kin-chung and staff members. The two parties also toured the OUHK campus together and discussed cooperative possibilities on scientific research and programme offers.

New accommodation for mainland students

Accommodation facilities for new full-time students from mainland China have been provided at Caritas Bianchi Lodge in Yau Ma Tei starting from September, instead of the YWCA Anne Black Guest House as in the past. The new venue makes available more facilities to students at a lower fee. The change was made after careful consideration of comparable venues and student feedback.
