OUHK presents over $6.6 million in financial awards

The OUHK presented more than $6.6 million in financial awards to some 600 students in the 2008-09 academic year. Among the recipients, about 310 received scholarships or prizes while more than 300 were given bursary grants. Philanthropist Dr Tin Ka-ping, who officiated the award presentation ceremony on 2 September, donated $3 million on the spot for the Mainland China Visiting Scholars Exchange Programme under the Tin Ka Ping Education Fund. The programme will support mainland experts and scholars to come to Hong Kong for academic exchanges, research and professional development. Dr Tin's father passed away when he was at a young age and he built up his business from scratch with hard work and perseverance. The Tin Ka Ping Foundation he established in 1982 has supported numerous projects in Greater China over the years. Peng Feifei, a full-time professional accounting student from Guizhou, delivered a vote of thanks on behalf of the scholarship winners. The ceremony was officiated by OUHK Council Chairman Dr Eddy C Fong and President Prof. John C Y Leong, and attended by donors as well as the families of scholarship and bursary recipients.
