BBA in Banking and Finance Year 2 student Armstrong Siu and
BBA in International Business Year 1 student Jocelyn Pan were
among 30 outstanding students in local universities selected
to go to either New York or Geneva in June or July to join
the Global Citizenship Programme organized by the Dragon Foundation.
It was a steep learning curve for Armstrong, who confessed
his grasp of world affairs was minimal before the trip. His
itinerary included the United Nations Office at Geneva, Security
Council, World Trade Organization, Red Cross, World Health
Organization, office of the United Nations High Commissioner
for Refugees and Graduate Institute of International Studies,
during which he participated in debates and discussions on
topics such as AIDS, fair trade, labour rights, wild animal
poaching in Africa and the treatment of prisoners at Guantanamo
Bay.
On the other hand, Jocelyn explored
ethics in today's international, interconnected business
community as well as within leading media organizations
through a series of interactive presentations and site visits
in New York City, including to the Hong Kong Economic and
Trade Office, Citi, futurethink, Lehman Brothers Inc and World
Bank. She got an inside look at strategies developed by the
United Nations, Global Compact, Subotnick Financial Services
Center and other major corporations to foster greater social
responsibility.
