Building on last year's conference on ICT, the OUHK and the
Hong Kong Web Symposium Consortium brought together about
300 local and overseas academics at the 2007 International
Conference on ICT in Teaching and Learning on 9 and 10 July.
This
year's event focused on bringing the excitement and power
of Web 2.0 applications such as blogs and wikis into the learning
experience. In his opening speech at the event, OUHK President
Prof John C Y Leong noted that the new technologies and themes
addressed in this Conference showed the growing importance
of ICT in education. Student expectations have become very
high since students live much of their lives outside of class
through new technologies.
Participants responded to the
Conference theme, 'Enhancing Learning through Technology',
with a series of stimulating keynote speeches and paper
presentations, and an impressive number of hands-on workshops.
The Conference was co-hosted by the OUHK and St Paul's Convent
School, and highlighted the need to apply cutting-edge
technology and advanced pedagogical practices in teaching and
learning at all levels.
