Full-time students of the course Network Programming and Design visited the Renewable Energy Telecom Transmission Station set up by the School of Science and Technology and the Hong Kong Amateur Radio Association on Tai Tung Shan on Lantau Island recently to learn how to use wind and solar energy to power wireless communications. They were required to set up an ad hoc wireless mobile network as part of a practical exam. 'I was thrilled to be able to post photos taken on site immediately onto the OUHK's Online Learning Environment. I also used my notebook computer to send SMS to my dad and buddies,' said Year Two student Casper Lau. The Station was built with a grant from China Light and Power. Vodafone provided free access to their 3.5G network and the required hardware for the field trip on 20 April.
