You are advised to have already studied BUS B103.

Aims
This course aims to:

  • Introduce students to the basic concepts needed for writing business reports and proposals, and delivering presentations;

  • Acquaint students with some theories of effective communication;

  • Introduce students to major business communication issues;

  • Provide students with the strategies and skills that are needed to apply communication theories and concepts to business-related communication;

  • Help students develop skills for communicating effectively in groups and in the employment process.

Contents
The course covers the following topics:

  • Business communication strategies

  • Team communication, oral communication and business etiquette

  • Reports and proposals

  • Oral presentations

  • Employment communication

Learning support
There will be 18 hours of tutorials.

Assessment
There are two tutor-marked assignments and one three-hour examination for the course. Students are required to do an oral presentation as part of the second assignment.
