On 14 December 2016, Prof. Ji-you Jia, Professor at Department of Educational Technology and Graduate School of Education at Peking University, gave a workshop on latest developments in online learning and technology-enhanced learning in China, and relevant research opportunities. In the workshop, Prof. Jia discussed the differing research foci of researchers in this area, and stressed that that learner is the most important stakeholder of the educational system, which will remain the emphasis of future research on online learning and technology-enhanced learning.

Seminar on 'A Multi-level recommender system for e-learning'

As e-learning resources grow rapidly, learners are facing the problem of information overload. It becomes increasingly difficult for learners to find required learning materials in an effective way. On 30 December 2016, Prof. Philips Fu-lee Wang, Vice-President (Research and Advancement) at Caritas Institute of Higher Education, gave a seminar on a system which recommends learning resources at different levels. In the seminar, Prof. Wang first introduced a framework to organize e-learning resources and capture learning preferences through analyzing various relationships among learners and resources. Based on the framework, learning resources were then recommended to individual learners or a class. Learners could also be assigned to different learner groups. Prof. Wang demonstrated that the proposed framework could support various kinds of e-learning applications in different scales.

Seminar on 'Learning behavior and interactive pattern analysis – methodology, tools and practices'

On 6 January 2017, Prof. Gwo-jen Hwang, Distinguished Professor of IROINE and Chair Professor at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, conducted a seminar on current state of research studies on learning analytics.
