Seminar on ‘Digital Revelation: The Impact of Media and Technology Convergence’
(數碼啟示錄 ― 媒體和科技整合之衝擊)


Mr Man Tin, Programme Manager in the Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional and Continuing Education at the Open University of Hong Kong, gave a seminar on 21 January 2016 about the impact of media and technology convergence on the building of people’s relationships. The explanation for this phenomenon and behaviour was explored based on an evolutionary psychology framework.

Seminar on ‘Internet Catchphrases on Beijing Smog Panics: Resist with Language and the Language for Resistance’

Professor Mingjie Li, Professor at the East China Normal University, gave a seminar on 3 February 2016. She discussed the development of contemporary Chinese Internet catchphrases and explained that such forms of expression in cyberspace in China have demonstrated the intentions of the population.

Seminar on ‘Printmaking in the Post-print Age’

Ms Jane Liu — an experienced Hong Kong printmaking artist, Chairperson of the Art Horizon Printmaking Workshop and Museum Expert Advisor at the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in Hong Kong — gave a seminar on 18 February 2016. Ms Liu addressed the revolution in printmaking in the Post-print Age, and discussed various aspects of prints and the significance of the artist’s style and creativity on printmaking.

Seminar on ‘Cinematic Sound Design: The Concept of Addition and Subtraction in the Post-digital Age’

Ms Venus Lai, Senior Lecturer in the School of Arts and Social Sciences at the Open University of Hong Kong, gave a seminar on 15 March 2016 about cinematic sound design in the post-digital age. Following the concept of ‘addition’ and ‘subtraction’ of sound in films production, Ms Lai shared her thoughts of how filmmakers tell stories by the use of sound.

Seminar on ‘Corpus Linguistics as a Research Approach

Dr Althea Ha of The University of Hong Kong gave a seminar on 12 April 2016 to introduce corpus linguistics as a research approach. In the talk, Dr Ha explained what a corpus is and why we use corpora in linguistic research, followed by an overview of different types of corpora.
