Forum on the action plan for water pollution prevention

Following the announcement of the new comprehensive water pollution plan by the State Council of China in April, a forum on the action plan for water pollution prevention was held on 18 July 2015 at the OUHK. The forum was organized by the Hong Kong Green Strategy Alliance, and was co-organized by the OUHK’s School of Science and Technology, the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, the Hong Kong Environmental Industry Association and the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong.

Seminar on big data in algae research

The 14th seminar in the IRITS luncheon seminar series was held on 24 July 2015, and was presented by Dr Eddie Ka-lun Law, Research Fellow of IRITS. In the seminar, Dr Law discussed how big data technology can contribute to the understanding of algae, in particular, harmful algal blooms (or, red tides) that have an adverse impact on marine fauna and flora, and human life.

Seminar on the numerical solution of one-dimensional Stefan problems

For the 15th seminar in the IRITS luncheon seminar series, Professor James Caldwell, Honorary Professor (Mathematics and Statistics) in the OUHK, was invited to deliver a speech on the numerical solution of one-dimensional Stefan problems. In the seminar, Professor Caldwell introduced a range of appropriate methods for the solution and illustrated them by application to a selection of test problems.

Seminar on virtual machines, containers, and operating systems

The 16th seminar in the IRITS luncheon seminar series was held on 4 September 2015. The seminar was given by Dr Eddie Ka-lun Law. In the seminar, Dr Law reviewed the development of computing systems and discussed the evolution of virtual machines, containers and operating systems stimulated by cloud computing technology.
