Message from the Director of URC

Welcome to the third issue of the Research Bulletin. I am pleased to see that this newsletter has become an important vehicle for sharing the latest research development of the University. I would like to thank all the colleagues who provided us feedback and comments helpful in improving this newsletter.

In this issue, we are delighted to share with you the very successful official launch of the Institute for Research in Innovative Technology and Sustainability (IRITS) by the School of Science and Technology (S&T) with the support of the Public Affairs Unit. Our heartfelt congratulations go to S&T for their achievements in the impressive grand event. We also introduce our two new research institutes’ websites, which provide information about their events and activities. The two are IRITS and the Institute for Research in Digital Culture and Humanities of the School of Arts and Social Sciences. Both Institutes are supported by funding from the Institutional Development Scheme of the Research Grants Council to develop the research capacity of the University in the relevant strategic areas.

Our University has continued to be active in research related activities, as you will see in the “Past Events” page, many seminars and a workshop have been held. Besides, the Second International Conference on Technology in Education, with OUHK being one of the organizers, was held in early July at the Caritas Institute of Higher Education. The University also just held its Second International Conference on Open and Flexible Education (ICOFE 2015). In both conferences, many of our colleagues participated actively and they presented a total of 19 papers. A report on ICOFE 2015 will be included in the next issue.

Again, for easy reading and navigation, the webpages of this newsletter have been organized in a way convenient for users of both desktop and tablet computers. I would like to thank Professor YK Ip, our Associate Vice President (Academic Support & External Links), for outlining the University’s vision of research development in his message. My thanks also extend to Dr Chi-wai Chan from the School of Education and Languages for sharing with us his extensive knowledge and experience in research.
