Message from the Vice President (Academic)

I am delighted to see the birth of our University’s newsletter, Research Bulletin, which serves as a platform for sharing updates on our developments in research as well as useful information for academics. It is with great pleasure to see its second issue. While an emphasis on quality teaching has always been at the heart of OUHK, we also commit ourselves to excellence in research and scholarly activities.

The University endeavours to develop and strengthen its strategic areas of research. With the support of the Institutional Development Scheme funded by the Research Grants Council (RGC), we have established two research institutes, the Institute for Research in Digital Culture and Humanities and the Institute for Research in Innovative Technology and Sustainability, led by the School of Arts and Social Sciences and the School of Science and Technology respectively. The two institutes will strengthen our existing research areas and expand the scopes of our expertise.

The University also seeks to enhance its research capacity through strategic initiatives. For instance, we have submitted another application to RGC to set up three additional institutes to further strengthen our research capacity. We are recruiting renowned scholars in various disciplines as Distinguished Professors to share their research knowledge and expertise with our colleagues and to provide academic inputs for the development of research in academic units.

I would like to extend my thanks to colleagues at the University Research Centre for their efforts in preparing this research newsletter. Through our efforts to create a vibrant research culture, we are anticipating fruitful results from the University’s research development.
