Seminar on Professional Communication Skills for Research Publication (Creating and Managing Research Space)

With the recent emphasis on research and publication in higher education, professional communication skills are seen as key contributors to academic performance in disciplinary and interdisciplinary research. Drawing on recent research on the analysis of journal articles in various disciplines (Bhatia, 1993, 2004, 2010; Swales, 1990, 2004), Prof. Bhatia will identify and discuss the role of rhetorical structuring and a number of other academic skills and strategies for successful performance in disciplinary and interdisciplinary research publication.

This seminar will focus on the fundamentals of working in NVivo, from creating a project, importing your material (whether it be text, PDFs, Datasets, Web pages, media or image files) and coding. It will also cover the many tools that can be used to explore and ask questions of your data, generate visualisations and share your findings.
