Message from the Director of URC

I am pleased to launch this maiden issue of our new series of newsletter – Research Bulletin – as a platform for sharing research related news and information. To scale new heights, it is important for us to generate new knowledge and develop ourselves academically through research, and this newsletter will serve as one of our tools to achieve it.

Last year, the OUHK successfully applied for funding from the Institutional Development Scheme (IDS) to carry out the first phase of institutional research capacity development from 2015 to 2017. A wide range of seminars and workshops on research skills will be organised to support academic staff’s research work and to assist them to captalise on research funding opportunities. Various resources will also be provided to facilitate research work of academic staff, among which Research Bulletin is one of our efforts to promote institutional research culture. This newsletter aims to support the professional development of academic colleagues and offer them various kinds of useful information for all stages of research, from generating research ideas, identifying potential funding sources to writing reports and publishing research results.

To facilitate the exchange of information, I would like to invite Schools and LiPACE to provide us with the latest information about their research related activities that has been and will be held. Colleagues are also welcome to share research ideas, news and projects through this newsletter.

URC is eager to work with you to make this newsletter a useful channel for academic exchanges and sharing. If you have any suggestions or anything relevant to share, you are welcome to contact me.

I would like to thank Professor YK Ip, our Associate Vice president (Academic Support and External Links), for his advice and guidance on research promotion. I am grateful to Professor Yu-lok Chui for accepting our interview invitation and generously sharing his research expertise. My thanks also go to relevant colleagues in the School of Arts and Social Sciences and the School of Science and Technology for their useful information for this issue. Last but not the least, I am indebted to URC colleagues for their diligent efforts to design, enrich and produce this newsletter.
